Garrett Nussmeier was a 4-star prospect out of Marcus High School. He committed to play his college football at LSU for the 2021 season. Nussmeier redshirted his freshman year and appeared in a handful of games over his first three seasons with LSU. During that stretch, he served as the backup quarterback behind Max Johnson and later Jayden Daniels.

Nussmeier exploded in his junior season as the full-time starter. He led LSU to a 9–4 record while throwing for over 4,000 yards and 29 touchdowns. In 2025, however, Nussmeier regressed. He threw roughly half the number of attempts compared to the previous season and finished with just 12 touchdown passes. Reports indicated he dealt with an abdominal/oblique injury for the majority of the 2025 season, which limited both his production and overall effectiveness. Despite the setback, Nussmeier accepted an invite to the Senior Bowl, where he was able to rebuild momentum. He earned MVP honors after leading two scoring drives.

Rookie Profile | Strengths and Weaknesses

Garrett Nussmeier is an interesting quarterback prospect since we saw flashes this year, but he also had a big 2024 season. On film, you see the velocity in his throws as he can really whip the ball. You did see this more in 2024 prior to the injury he sustained in 2025. He has a fast release, especially on designed throws to his first option. He is accurate in the short-to-immediate area of the field and operates as a quick-tempo type of quarterback who, in the right system, could thrive. He offers experience and leadership at the position with plenty of playing time under his belt. His ball placement along the sideline is really solid, and he can make throws on the run while extending plays impressively.

There are reasons Nussmeier didn’t carry his 2024 momentum into this draft season. Outside of the injury, he does have some negatives in his game. His frame could be an issue at the NFL level. Weighing in around 203 pounds, there may be concerns about whether he can consistently hold up against NFL punishment. He will also take gambles at times, forcing throws into tight windows when a simple checkdown would have been the smarter decision. He is average when it comes to reading defenses, and his pocket movement can be sloppy. At times, he takes unnecessary hits and puts himself in avoidable negative situations. While it was more of a 2025 concern, his deep-ball throws and placement looked average at best on film.

Ceiling: a slimmer Brock Purdy — quick processor, rhythm passer, thrives in structure.

Floor: Kenny Pickett — flashes talent but inconsistent decision-making and limited ceiling.

Garrett Nussmeier | All-22 Film Breakdown

Dynasty Nerds offers a ton of amazing resources for the dedicated dynasty manager. Fantastic articles, rankings, and our revolutionary Team building app. But, the most useful resource in my opinion is our amazing collection of All 22nd film. This database allows you to watch condensed games for the prospects you want to evaluate. You get to see every play they are in the game do they try when they don’t get the ball are they just a couple big highlight player or do they consistently succeed?

On the first play, you see Nussmeier’s ability to read through his progression and hit the open receiver across the middle of the field. On the next play, he recognizes the pressure and does something he does well—making throws on the run. On the third play, Nussmeier shows flashes of his 2024 self, delivering a deep throw along the sideline for a touchdown

Draft Capital | Potential Landing Spots

Nussmeier’s landing spot will ultimately come down to how teams view him in their grading process. I’d consider him a borderline Day 2 pick who is more likely to hear his name called early on Day 3.

Some potential landing spots could include the Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts, or Arizona Cardinals, depending on how their offseason situations unfold. A near-perfect developmental spot would be the Los Angeles Rams, where he could sit and learn under Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford.
