Carnell Tate | Wide Receiver | Ohio State
Height: 6’3’’
Weight: 195 lbs
Every year, Ohio State churns out talent at the wide receiver position. Carnell Tate is the next to come from the Ohio State pipeline. Tate was a five-star recruit from IMG Academy, where he received offers from Alabama, LSU, and Tennessee before ultimately choosing Ohio State. In 2025, Tate finished as a semifinalist for the Fred Biletnikoff Award, which is awarded to the best receiver in college football.

Tate was primarily the WR2 during his time at Ohio State, which was no knock against him, considering his teammates included Emeka Egbuka, Marvin Harrison Jr., and Jeremiah Smith, and he was also part of the 2024 Ohio State National Championship team.

Rookie Profile | Strengths and Weaknesses
Ohio State prides itself on its wide receivers’ ability as route runners. Tate is a nuanced and detailed route runner. He shows exceptional ability to track the football and displays keen awareness of his position on the football field. His hands, which I consider as potentially the best in this receiving class, work as one fluid motion. Tate will only be 21-years old at the start of the NFL season and can still evolve his game to a different level. Tate exhibits a well-rounded skillset and could be the safest draft prospect (and most pro-ready) receiver from this receiving class.
As far as areas of improvement for Tate, he does not possess home run speed. Tate projects to be a 4.5 or 4.6 style speed. However, his game is predicated on his craftiness as a route runner and his hands, not his explosion. He will offer some yards after the catch, but is not considered elusive in the open field. Tate can also improve his physicality against press corners, but as I said earlier, Tate is a young prospect who still can evolve with the proper coaching. I compare Tate’s game to that of his former teammate Emeka Egbuka.

Draft Capital | Potential Landing Spots
Tate currently sits as my WR1 in this draft class and should be a top-five pick in your rookie drafts. In my rookie scouting, I have his tape score at 91, which puts him in the potential-elite-fantasy-producer category (WR1s). Looking at recent NFL mock drafts, Tate is commonly being drafted as the first or second wide receiver off the board. As far as potential fits for Tate, I would love to see him start as a team’s WR2. The New York Giants or the Pittsburgh Steelers would be among the better landing spots for Tate. Depending on how the Giants handle their coaching situation, Tate would be an excellent complement to Malik Nabers and give Jaxson Dart another offensive weapon.

🧠 People Also Ask About Carnell Tate
Is Carnell Tate a good dynasty rookie draft pick in SuperFlex leagues?
A: Carnell Tate profiles as a strong early rookie pick in SuperFlex formats because his game is built on repeatable traits that translate quickly: detailed route running, elite ball tracking, and hands that consistently win at the catch point. He may not be a pure home-run speed threat, but the floor looks high if he earns early volume as a reliable chain-mover and red-zone option.
What are Carnell Tate’s biggest strengths as an NFL Draft wide receiver prospect?
A: Carnell Tate’s best strengths are his nuanced route-running, ability to track the football, and field awareness, plus hands that work as one fluid motion through the catch. He also enters the league young, which leaves room for growth, and his well-rounded skill set gives him a pro-ready profile compared to many receivers who rely on pure athleticism.
What are Carnell Tate’s weaknesses and areas he must improve before the NFL?
A: Carnell Tate does not project as a burner, and his speed profile is more “good enough” than game-breaking. He can also get stronger against press coverage and add more consistent physicality at the line, and while he’ll contribute after the catch, he isn’t described here as an open-field elusiveness specialist. The upside is that his technical game and hands are already a strong base to build on.
What landing spots would be best for Carnell Tate’s dynasty fantasy football value?
A: Carnell Tate’s dynasty value would benefit most from a situation where he can open his career as a team’s WR2 and grow into a larger target share. In this profile, the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers stand out as strong fits, with the idea that he could complement an established weapon and quickly become a trusted option for his quarterback.
