Studs and duds from New York Giants’ Week 2 loss to Commanders

Brian Daboll was destined for this spot after the game’s very first play. That’s when kicker Graham Gano, who had been added to the injury report on Saturday with a groin injury, suffered a hamstring injury and was lost for the game. Although they only carried 52 men on Sunday (plus two practice squad elevations), there was never any consideration given to activating kicker Jude McAtamney — either through an elevation or signing him to the 53-man roster. It’s the second consecutive week Daboll made baffling and costly personnel decisions. How does this continue to happen?

Forget the play-calling, which was questionable at times, or failing to call a timeout on the final offensive drive (leading to an illegal shift penalty), not having a backup plan at kicker cost the Giants a minimum of four points in a game they lost by three.
