Razzball Commenter Leagues, Week 20, 2024 Fantasy Baseball
Time’s up! Pencils down! Trade deadline is over. We enter into the 20s for weekly recaps and we have seven weeks to go in the Razzball Commenter Leagues. As a group we made 113 trades, that’s down thirty from last season. Those 113 trades involved 302 players, 187 of them unique. Want to guess the most traded player this year? I won’t keep score, you can just say it in your head, I’ll tell you in the TRADES section down below. RCL 24 made the most trades this year with nine, COUGS R US was next with eight, and RCL 34 was right there with seven. Nine leagues made no trades…what are they even doing? With no more trading, we now have to focus solely on the waiver wire to find those late-season gems. Could Coby Mayo be a league winner down the stretch? Maybe another rookie gets some run and leads teams to victory. We’ll see, with seven weeks to go in this marathon season, still plenty of time to make a charge, just ask Grey, who had a very impressive week. More on that and the rest of the stats for the week that was, week 20, below:
Each week we’ll peek in at our resident ‘perts to see who is laying claim to best “expert” RCLer in the land. We’ll take notes, check the standings, and generally stalk them. The heading is also hyperlink, so feel free to follow along as we go.
As mentioned, Grey had a week this week, gaining the most points (5.5) and moving into third place thanks to leading the league in strikeouts and wins (but not IP, I always enjoy when that happens). A late surge from Grey could be enough to take the title. I gained five points this week and moved into fourth, but I don’t have the horses. My K/9 is atrocious and my batting average is worst in the league. Grey has innings to play with and needs to drop about a half point in ERA to get from 4.00 to 3.50. Mix in some SBs and he could make a serious run. B_don went the other way this week, dropping 5.5 points and falling four places to seventh. Is it a coincidence these two teams going different directions this week?
Each week we’ll also take a look at the top ten overall standings in our other Razzball sponsored league, the RazzSlam. This is our NFBC Best Ball league with managers from all across the industry, from content providers to fans and readers just like you.
We are into cutline round two now, with round three just two weeks away. Here are our current twenty teams who would be playing for the championship right now (18 from the Championship Tier and 2 from the Wild Card Tier).

There’s a new name at the top of the heap, congrats to cubbiehead, who takes the lead with seven weeks to go. There are some teams coming on strong, though. Afternoon Delights is riding a 106 LCI in RCL 34 to a top three standing. I’m not sure what’s gotten into RCL 34, but it’s them and NOTLZ at the top of the LCI heap. I’m in RCL 34 and there are some solid managers in there, but I had no idea this $20 league was that competitive. I don’t feel so bad about sitting in second right now. Password is taco is having a huge year, with three teams in the top twenty, any of those could pop off and make a charge. The low LCI is going to hold them back I think. Password should seek out a more competitive league next season! Backdoor Splitters is making his late season surge. Backdoor is one of the best managers I’ve ever played against and I would place a bet he’s in the top five to finish the season. Man or Stroman? and Son also both made huge surges since July and I’ll be very curious to see where they end up in the final standings. My thinking is we’ll have an update in three weeks, Septemeber 3rd and if we can get one more in on the 17th of Septemeber I’d be thrilled. I think that will give the teams in the hunt a nice little glimpse before the final two week sprint to the finish. That’s the plan, let’s see what happens.

The trade deadline went out with a bang, the most trades we’ve ever had in a week this season, sixteen total. There were some good ones too!
I can’t imagine what Freddie Freeman gives you that Bobby Witt doesn’t other than the Flaming Marshmallows must have really needed a first basemen.
I really like the return for Corbin Carroll.
Remember how Grey has innings to spare and needs to lower his ERA? Now everyone has traded him their aces for “closers” and I have to believe Grey is a master negotiator. I imagine it goes something like this: “Hey, send me Hunter Greene”…”OK”. Or something like that.
Lane Thomas moved twice at the deadline. I’m very curious to see how he finishes the season in Cleveland. I hope it’s with a bang!
Finally, WatchMeWitt WatchMeNaylor might be my current favorite team name, well done.
Ready for the answer to the most traded player in the RCLs this year? Robert Suarez was dealt seven times. I would have guessed closer, but I probably would have gone with Kyle Finnegan who was traded four times. Coming in as the second most traded player was another closer, Carlos Estevez with six deals.
A new record in HRs was set this week and if the name Creative Chaos sounds familiar, it’s because they also led the RCLs last week, giving them 52 HRs in two weeks. CC has 250 HRs on the year, ? of them in the past two weeks. Jake Burger’s nine ding-dongs lead the way.
Vin came two strikeouts from tying the weekly record this week, so close, Vin. Revenge of the Witt came within one steal of tying the weekly record as well.
It’s hard to argue with B_don’s process, even if the results aren’t there yet. He traded for all the closers and leads the RCLs this week with ten. He’s just four saves from gaining three points in the standings though, so the results are coming, despite my razzing him for the trades.
Some more tidbits from the week, courtesy of Vin:
15 teams had an ERA under 2. (Last Week there were 4)
47 teams had an ERA over 6. (Last Week there were 82)
2 teams hit under .200 (Last Week there were 7)
58 teams hit over .300. (Last Week there were 48)
TEAM OF THE WEEK
Our weekly shout out to the team that killed it the previous week.
Summary: Weeks like this are what roto dreams are made of. Even with a little elevated ERA, this is still enough to win you leagues. The nice week moved Webber13 up seven points and one spot in RCL 30 to now sit in fourth place. Jackson Merrill led the way, hitting .417 with four home runs and eight runs batted in. Zach Neto (3 HR/10 RBI) and Cal Raleigh (3 HR/9 RBI) were also stellar. Jose Ramirez, James Wood, and Andres Gimenez each added three stolen bases. Spencer Arrighetti’s 13-strikeout game paced the pitching staff. He recorded the win and allowed just 3 baserunners. Also securing wins were James Paxton, Jose Berrios (8 K/1.29/1.00), and Tyler Anderson (7 K/1.50/0.67). Emmanuel Clase picked up two saves. Well done, Webber!
