As expected, the Atlanta Braves have reinstated Max Fried from the 15-day injured list. He will start Sunday’s series finale against the Miami Marlins. To open up a spot on the active roster, Atlanta optioned Dylan Lee to Gwinnett to open up a spot on the active roster.
The #Braves today reinstated LHP Max Fried from the injured list after optioning LHP Dylan Lee to Triple-A Gwinnett following last night’s game.

The Braves placed Fried on the injured list back on July 21 with neuritis in his left forearm. He initially felt the neuritis while he was warming up for his appearance in the All-Star Game but didn’t think it was serious. He alerted team trainers a few days later when the symptoms were still present.
Exams on Fried’s forearm showed no structural damage and the Braves were hoping when they placed him on the injured list that it would be a short stay. That turned out to be the case with his return Sunday. Fried has made 18 starts this season and has a 3.08 ERA and a 3.55 FIP in 108 innings.
Lee has been a solid contributor for the Braves out of the bullpen but is currently the only pitcher down there that has options. The recent addition of Luke Jackson has only further crowded the situation. The move also signifies that the team doesn’t believe Reynaldo López will need a stint on the injured list although he has yet to throw a bullpen session since experiencing soreness in his forearm in his last start against the Mets on July 28.
We probably shouldn’t expect to see Lee have an extended stay at Gwinnett. The Braves are simply trying to keep all of their available options open at this juncture but will eventually have to reevaluate the situation. Jesse Chavez has been a wonderful story but has allowed four earned runs over his last seven innings and is carrying a 4.64 FIP which is more than double his 2.23 ERA.
