Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay times reports the Braves are one of a handful of teams expected to pursue starter Zach Eflin.
The 30-year-old right-hander has been a reliable mid-level starter with Tampa Bay the last couple of years, and makes sense for Atlanta given the rotation injuries suffered by Spencer Strider and, more recently, Max Fried.
For the season, Eflin has posted a 4.09 ERA but with much better peripherals. His 3.65 FIP, 3.76 xFIP and 3.37 xERA paint a much clearer picture for why teams will be interested in him if Tampa ultimately decides to sell. Tampa currently sits 4.5 games out of the third wild card spot in the American League and has an earned reputation for wheeling and dealing when they feel it’s time to move someone.
The trade deadline is Tuesday, July 30th at 6 pm ET.
