The Braves dropped the series opener Monday 4-3. After Wednesday’s twin bill, they will have to fly to Chicago for a make up game from April against the Chicago White Sox before returning to Truist Park on Friday.
Reynaldo López will start Game 1 on Wednesday and Bryce Elder will get the start in Game 2. That will push Chris Sale back to Thursday’s game in Chicago.
Braves pitching plan:
Game 1 on Wednesday: Reynaldo López
Game 2 on Wednesday: Bryce Elder
Thursday: Chris Sale— Justin Toscano (@JustinCToscano) June 26, 2024
The AJC’s Justin Toscano reports that the Braves planned to start Bryce Elder Wednesday all along, but now will have the luxury of doing so with him as the 27th man for the doubleheader.
The Braves had planned to recall Bryce Elder to start on Wednesday anyway. This would’ve built in extra rest for Chris Sale and the others.
Now, the Braves could appoint Elder as the 27th man without needing to make a corresponding move if they choose to go that route.
