Braves place Ray Kerr on 15-day injured list with UCL injury (UPDATED)

The Atlanta Braves announced Monday that they have placed left-hander Ray Kerr on the 15-day injured list with a UCL injury in his left elbow. Kerr was optioned to Gwinnett on June 15, but the Braves have voided the option.

Teams are prohibited from optioning a player that is injured so that is why Kerr’s option was voided. The Braves had a similar situation at the end of last season with Dylan Lee, who had a shoulder injury at the time and underwent surgery during the offseason.

While the Braves didn’t add many details in regard to Kerr’s injury, a UCL injury usually leads to Tommy John surgery so that would seem to be in play here.

Whatever the outcome, it is a tough blow for Kerr and the Braves. He appeared in 10 games, including a pair of starts, and had a 5.64 ERA and a 4.40 FIP to go along with 27 strikeouts in 22 13 innings.

UPDATE – Kerr is indeed headed for Tommy John surgery and will miss the remainder of this season and part of 2025.
