The Atlanta Braves fell by a final score of 5-1 to the Miami Marlins today as the offense just couldn’t get things going. The Braves went for a combined 6-for-32 at the plate in today’s game as they were unable to battle back against the Marlins’ lead.
Miami struck first in this one as they got things going in the bottom of the first. Josh Bell sent a ball into the left field for a solo home run to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead. Miami got things going again in the second as they got back-to-back singles from Avisail Garcia and Emmanuel Rivera to put runners at first and third. Vidal Brujan then hit a sacrifice fly to score Avisail Garcia to advance Miami’s lead to 2-0.
A few innings later, Miami managed to put things together with two outs as Luis Arraez reached on a single. The single was followed by back-to-back walks to load the bases for Bryan De La Cruz. De La Cruz unfortunately came through for Miami as he hit a bases clearing double to put the Marlins up 5-0 going into the sixth inning.
The Braves managed to respond in the top of the sixth with a run of their own as Austin Riley laced a triple into center field to start things off. A couple of batters later, Marcell Ozuna grounded out to Max Meyer to bring in Riley and close the Marlins lead to 5-1.
Chris Sale saw his day come to an end after the seventh inning as he managed to finish strong in his outing. Sale finished his day with five earned runs on six hits and three walks along with striking out seven. Jesse Chavez replaced Sale in the bottom of the eighth and managed to keep the score at 5-1 to give the Braves’ offense one more shot in the ninth.
Unfortunately for Atlanta’s offense, they were unable to put together a comeback as they dropped game two by a final score of 5-1.
Atlanta now sits at 8-5 on the season as they will now look to bounce back tomorrow in game three.
