Hornets guard James Bouknight Arrested for DWI

Charlotte Hornets guard James Bouknight was arrested driving while impaired early Sunday morning by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, according to a police report.

The 22-year-old was found unconscious inside his vehicle on a parking deck in uptown Charlotte.

Bouknight’s bond was set at $2,500.

Police confiscated a . 40 caliber Glock 23, per TMZ, though it is not known if Bouknight was charged with possession of a firearm.

“We are just gathering information right now,” Charlotte coach Steve Clifford said after practice. “Until we know more definitely on what happened, I can’t comment on that.”

The Hornets issued a statement Monday.

“We are aware of the incident involving James Bouknight and are in the process of gathering additional information. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Bouknight has multiple past charges,  including reckless driving to endanger on October 10, reckless driving-wanton disregard on November 11, 2021, and again on February 23, 2022, per WBTV 3 Charlotte.

The second-year player averaged 4.6 points, 1.7 rebounds, and .8 assists in his first season in the league last year.

The Hornets open their season Wednesday against the San Antonio Spurs, already short star guard LaMelo Ball.

Ball suffered a Grade 2 ankle sprain in a preseason game against the Washington Wizards.

Miles Bridges is also still out, with his preliminary hearing on charges of domestic violence delayed until November 3.

Bridges, the Hornets’ leading scorer last season, is a restricted free agent after his contract expired last July after his arrest.

The Hornets can match any offer but have held off initiating negotiations in the wake of the charges.
